Community Arts Resources (CARS) seeks a passionate, experienced, and energetic Director of Production to oversee and manage our annual calendar of events and festivals. CARS creates unique experiences where art, culture, community and civic life collide. Producing cultural experiences – large and small – is the foundation of Community Arts Resources and the Director of Production will be responsible for all aspects of event production. Ideal candidates should have in-depth knowledge of, and experience working with the Los Angeles arts and cultural scene, and share CARS’ values for a community-centered approach to producing. The Director of Production reports directly to the CARS Executive Director and to the President.


Job Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and coordinate all aspects of event production, from conception to execution
  • Oversee operations, direct on-site staff, coordinate technical and all-production related activities
  • Secure venues and all equipment
  • Create and manage production budgets
  • Obtain necessary permits across agencies
  • Create and maintain production schedule to ensure projects are completed on time and on budget
  • Develop and track contracts with artists and third-party vendors; negotiate fees/quotes, schedules, and scope-of-work
  • Manage marketing, graphics, and public relations for events
  • Manage community outreach for events
  • Manage communication between clients, vendors, internal staff (written and verbal)
  • Develop and maintain all files and documents pertaining to events including agendas, timelines, site plans, schedules, confirmation materials, etc.
  • Write and design project proposals and reports
  • Represent the company in public settings



  • 4+ years of experience in event production, including non-traditional venues
  • Experience programming and producing locally based artists
  • In-depth knowledge of the Los Angeles arts and cultural scene
  • Self-starter with excellent written, and verbal communications skills
  • Team player with a desire to be part of a fun, creative, and entrepreneurial team in a fast-paced, out-of-the-box environment
  • Creative-thinker and problem-solver with strong organizational and project management skills
  • Strong work ethic with an ability to work independently and collaboratively across teams
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and tasks in a calm, and professional manner in line with CARS’ values
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Expertise in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); proficiency with Mac computers a plus
  • Experience with Google Drive (Sheets, Docs)
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop)



Other Requirements:

  • Available during non-traditional office hours, including weekends
  • Access to a reliable automobile to attend offsite meetings
  • Proof of automobile insurance and valid California driver’s license
  • Ability to carry and lift up to 30 lbs. and stand for prolonged periods of time
  • Ability to drive 9’ cargo van a plus
  • Conversational foreign language skills a plus
