Young Storytellers sparks creative self-discovery through storytelling. Our programs highlight young people as the center of their own narratives, emphasize that their stories matter, and celebrate their unique voices as the ones telling them. What Is This Position?

Young Storytellers is growing our distance learning programming for students in grades K-12. Over the next three years, the Young Storytellers curriculum team will work to create new lessons and activities for both new and existing programming. Our team of three Curriculum Consultants will each be responsible for creating a learning unit per month comprised of three short lessons per week, and will be adapting various Young Storytellers games and exercises into full lesson plans. Curriculum Consultants are responsible for integrating the YS voice and values into distance learning programming, including belonging, connection, exploration, play, antiracism, and equity.

Cool, But Let’s Get Specific. What’s Involved in This Job?

Ongoing Responsibilities:

  • Creates virtual interactive educational activities, discussion questions, and writing prompts
    connected to intellectual property of a YS entertainment partner for grades K-12, and specifically for middle and high school grades;
  • Aligns all curriculum and activities to ELA common core standards and CASEL Core Competency areas;
  • Implements YS’s DEIB and antiracism practices in all parts of curriculum and program materials;
  • Participates in weekly check-ins and regular brainstorm sessions with the YS curriculum team.

Required Qualifications:

  • Experience creating ELA common core and CASEL-aligned lesson plans and specifically writing prompts;
  • Experience working in a public classroom, either as a classroom teacher or guest teaching artist

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience creating and leading theater games and exercises;
  • Experience with middle and high school curriculum and activity creation;
  • Experience creating curriculum aligned with social justice standards and/or familiarity with antiracist teaching practices, critical race theory, and decolonized curriculum;
  • Verbal and written fluency in Spanish.

What is My Compensation and Commitment for This Position?

The Distance Learning Curriculum Consultants are part time contracted positions with budgeted
compensation of $1,250 per month. These positions will last throughout the 2021-2022 school year
with a possibility of extension based on performance and budget available from our partners. For
the first year, each consultant will be averaging about 15 hours per week, with a breakdown of
approximately 10-12 hours creating curriculum, 2 hours of workshopping with the curriculum team,
and 1 hour of team check-ins. Consultants will be required to participate in a half-day onboarding
session and brainstorming deep-dive with the curriculum team, with some time at the YS office in
Downtown Los Angeles required each month. Please note that while we love our teachers and
school staff, because of contract restrictions, we are not able to hire current public school
teachers or staff for these positions.
