Katahdin Foundation (dba Katahdin Productions) is a non-profit production company that creates world-class documentaries such as Who Will Write Our History, Dorothea Lange: Grab A Hunk of Lightning, Seeing Allred, Above and Beyond, Hava Nagila: The Movie, Mimi and Dona, Ishi’s Return and many more. Founded by Lisa Thomas, co-founder and former CEO of Clif Bar, Inc., Katahdin projects tackle issues of social, political and historical interest that open minds, provoke dialogue and encourage positive social change.

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director of Katahdin Foundation is responsible for the oversight of the organization’s day-to-day operations and programming activities. This includes fundraising, overseeing film productions, marketing and communications, contract management and the overall execution of its strategic plans.

Executive Director Job Responsibilities:

• Oversee the day-to-day operations of the organization; hire and supervise staff and consultants.
• Manage the organizational budget, coordinate and lead monthly budget reviews and periodic forecasts.
• Review and sign all contracts and agreements made and entered into on behalf of the organization, including grant agreements.
• Manage existing portfolio of films currently in production, post-production or distribution.
• Develop relationships with funders, donors and the non-profit community.
• Seek and develop opportunities for revenue growth via partnerships with funders, donors, museums and educational institutions.
• Deepen and refine all aspects of communications—from web presence to social media with the goal of creating a stronger brand.
• Identify new in-house film productions and co-productions with filmmaker partners and oversee the legal, financial and human resource needs to ensure the productions’ success.
• Report to and work with the Board of Directors to seek their involvement in policy decisions and fundraising; oversee Board and committee meetings.
• Develop and implement strategic plan with Board and relevant partners.
• Serve as a spokesperson and representative of the organization.

Executive Director Qualifications/Skills

The Katahdin Executive Director will have demonstrated leadership and non-profit management experience, combined with knowledge and experience in documentary film producing.

Additional experience and skills include:
• Proven ability to raise funds from diverse base of donors and funders
• Experience with grant writing
• Experience working with a Board of Directors
• Sharp with finances and experience scaling a nonprofit organization
• Creative problem-solving skills
• Strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse group of people
• Passionate about documentary films
• Experience with fundraising and donor software

Working Hours & Benefits
This is a part time, exempt position (20 hours/week with possibility for expansion to full time). The pay rate is 53,000 - 65,000/year. Benefits include prorated health care insurance, prorated paid vacation and sick leave and paid holidays.

This position is based in Los Angeles, California. Remote work during COVID-19 with flexible hybrid work options.
