ABOUT Brentwood Art Center

Since 1971, the Brentwood Art Center (BAC) has provided instruction in the fine arts to
students of all ages and levels in an environment that encourages self-expression,
teaches traditional skills, reflects new and creative ideas and is sensitive to the needs of
the individual. BAC is also invested in promoting arts education in the greater Los
Angeles area through community outreach programs and scholarships.


Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director will have overall strategic and
operational responsibility for BAC’s faculty and administrative staff, programs and
curriculum, community and student relationships as well as achievement of mission and
financial objectives.


Leadership & Management
• Provide leadership in developing program, organizational and financial plans, carrying out strategies and policies authorized by the board
• Recommend timelines and resources needed to achieve strategic goals
• Ensure ongoing programmatic and curriculum excellence
• Maintain a climate which attracts, retains and motivates staff and faculty
• Manage day-to-day operations with support of an administrative manager

Communications & Fundraising
• Ensure that the board is kept fully informed on the condition of the organization
• Publicize the activities of BAC, its programs and goals
• Cultivate relationships with local businesses, elected officials, community leaders and other nonprofits
• Develop innovative ways to increase fundraising dollars

Budget & Finance
• Develop and maintain sound financial practices
• Work with the board and staff in preparing a budget; assure that the organization operates within budget guidelines

• Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience

The ED will be thoroughly committed to BAC’s mission. All candidates should have proven leadership, fundraising, strategic planning and relationship management experience. Other qualifications include:
• College degree in art/art education, museum administration or similar creative or
business major;
• Three to five years’ experience as an art educator including curriculum development
in the visual arts for adults and children;
• Demonstrated ability to evaluate, train, recruit and retain highly qualified art
• Persuasive communicator with solid interpersonal skills;
• Ability to work effectively in collaboration with a diverse group of individuals while
exhibiting a mission-driven and self-directed work ethic;
• Artistic sensibility, leadership skills.
