Blum & Poe is a premier contemporary art gallery located in Culver City with satellite galleries in New York and Tokyo. The gallery has a dynamic and scholarly exhibition program, along with a roster of over forty artists who work in a variety of media.
Overall responsibilities: manages the appraisal, organization, and description of the gallery’s archival collections in print and digital form, including images and books;
oversees rights and reproductions; gathers and records bio/bibliographical citations about gallery artists; repackages gathered information about artists to create social
media posts for three gallery spaces.
• Acquires a variety of printed, including catalogs, periodicals, and ephemera to
document exhibitions and the work of represented artists. Preserves and
organizes the materials for retrieval.
• Catalogs books in LibraryThing with standardized descriptions.
• Maintains the archival record of artists’ bio/bibliographical information according
to Chicago Manual of Style in conjunction with the Director of Publications.
• Preserves and organizes analog and digital images. Maintains filenaming
conventions for digital.
• Coordinates image reproduction requests, as well as the legal aspects of rights
and reproductions.
• Captures articles and reviews via scanning or screen shots and creates PDFs for
future retrieval.
• Maintains the gallery website. Uploads content, images, biographies,
bibliographies, and merchandise in Drupal.
• Creates and sends email blasts with preapproved text and images within
marketing software.
• Gathers information and creates brief, but thoughtful posts in Facebook, Twitter,
and Instagram regarding gallery events and artist activities in coordination with
the Manager of Public Relations.
Required qualifications: MLIS degree or enrolled in an MLIS program; undergraduate degree in art history, visual arts, or communications; previous experience working with
archives, preferably in a museum, gallery or studio setting; knowledge of FilemakerPro, Photoshop, and standard office software; and proven savvy working with websites
and/or social media.
Preferred qualifications: experience with Artbase, knowledge of contemporary art, past experience working in a digital archive, and knowledge of one foreign language.
