Position Title: Art Instructor
Status: Part-time; 1 hour session after-school, one day per week for 10 weeks; multiple classroom positions available per teacher/TA
Start Date: March 16
Stipend: $400 Teacher / $200 Teaching Assistant
Requirements: Experience teaching art to youth, preferably elementary school age; prepared, age-appropriate curriculum in-line with state VAPA Standards; experience in low-income communities a plus.

The mission of Center for the Arts Eagle Rock is to be innovative in providing multidisciplinary, arts-inclusive programming to the diverse communities of northeast Los Angeles and beyond. Since 1997, Center for the Arts Eagle Rock has been offering innovative arts programming to a diverse audience of children and young adults in schools and community groups throughout Northeast Los Angeles.
By bringing the arts back into LAUSD, we are investing in our youth. We currently serve 14 elementary and middle schools in Northeast Los Angeles through our after school enrichment program, Imagine Studio. All of our teachers build their classes into a small community, where freedom of expression feels safe and positive. Taught by local working artists, all of our classes are highly student-motivated and project-oriented.
Description:
Art teacher will lead weekly art classes for Imagine Studio's youth participants in elementary or middle schools.
Proposed Curriculum should:
- Expose students to art techniques, methods, and creating art as a form of self-expression.
- Refine skills for drawing, painting, and other art-making methods.
- Teach students a new set of vocabulary, as well as draw on their current vocabulary when learning about different colors, shapes, and images.
- Teach students to identify various art forms and techniques, and describe their differences. The students will follow directions, and will have the platform to invent using their art tools.
