Collections Internship, Corita Art Center, Los Angeles, CA

The Corita Art Center seeks an intern who will work closely with the collections manager and director. The desired candidate must be able to commit to 15-20 hours per week for at least 3 months. 

The intern will work primarily in collections-related projects, assisting the Corita Art Center in completing a Museum Assessment Program sponsored by the American Association of Museums (AAM). In the scope of this assessment, the intern will have the opportunity to work closely with consultants, curators, and collection management professionals. This experience would be ideal for someone interested in working in a registrar's office, collections management, conservation, or art handling.  
Duties will include: 

  • Answering collection assessment question
  • Participating in collection reviews and activities

Additional duties may include:

  • Conducting inventories for collection materials 
  • Photographing objects
  • Updating database records
  • Conducting condition reports on outgoing prints 
  • Creating posts for various social media platforms

Desired experience and qualifications:

  • Background and/or interest in art
  • Detail-oriented and organized
  • Experience with data entry 
  • Ability to work collaboratively

The Corita Art Center, a project of the Immaculate Heart Community is a gallery and archive located in Los Angeles on the campus of the Immaculate Heart High School. Corita Kent was an artist, educator, and advocate for social justice who worked primarily in serigraphy.
