Conservation Technician
The Citywide Mural Program seeks a Conservation Technician to oversee the daily activities of the restoration of approximately 8 murals across the City of Los Angeles for a long­standing not­for­profit organization. The program is estimated to last 9 months with the employment of a Conservation Technician lasting for 3 months with possible extension. The program startup date is July 1, 2015. The program requires a 30 hours/week commitment paid at $18.00/hr. We are seeking a committed, hard­working individual with a general experience in assisting the conservation of acrylic fine art murals. All materials and conservation methodology is provided by the lead conservator. We are looking for motivated individuals to play supportive role in the revitalization of historically important community artworks.

Job Responsibilities: The Conservation Technician: provides assistance on conservation work plans and executes procedures for each mural in the Citywide Mural Program; Reports to Program Coordinator; Evaluates mural sites as needed, coordinates work with Site Manager and Program Coordinator

Conservation Technician Job Duties
-Provides support to developing mural conservation documentation and procedures
-Assists in developing the conservation work plan for each mural in the Citywide Mural Program which constitutes graffiti removal and consolidation.
-Accomplishes work requirements by executing, orienting, training, support staff, such as interns, skilled workers, and students.
-Executes prepared work plan, i.e. removal of vandalism and application of preservation solution in preparation for original artist in­painting repairs.
-Maintains work standards by executing each mural conservation work plan, reports progress to Program
Coordinator, and upholds the conservation quality, productivity, and client relations of each project site; resolves conservation problems and identifies procedural improvements.  
-Protects operations and institution’s intellectual knowledge by keeping information confidential and guarding proprietary processes and procedures.  
-Updates job knowledge by reading professional publications and researching new methods and materials
-Documents all conservation procedures, methodologies, and follows the American Institute of Conservation Standards and Practices.
-Contributes to team vitality by enhancing the not­for­profit’s diverse ecology. Upholds organizational reputation by supporting the pursuit of social justice outcomes and explores opportunities to expand program achievements, and client services.
-Willingness to work and support artist goals; provide educational support, knowledge and training to interns, students, and support staff.
