CREATIVITY IN THE CLASSROOM at Inner-City Arts is a series of five engaging, hands-on workshops for classroom teachers, teaching artists and other interested community members. The series is designed for those new to the visual and performing arts, as well as those with a full range of experience. Teachers will explore their own creativity and gain practical skills to integrate a variety of arts disciplines into language arts, social studies, science and math. Artists and community members will explore their own creative impulses, and expand their knowledge base of various arts media, including drawing, painting, ceramics, dance, music, poetry and playmaking. Connections are made to the Common Core and the Visual and Performing Arts Standards. Brain research, foundational to all learning, is examined in the context of arts activities and ideas. Emphasis is placed on practices that support the creation of a supportive and creative learning environment, as well as personal growth through the arts.
