The Eli and Edythe Broad Stage at the Santa Monica College Performing Arts Center, currently in its 7th season, is a state of the art, 499-seat theatre with an adjoining black box theater. The Broad Stage is home to a stunning spectrum of artists, from world-renowned Mikhail Baryshnikov and Angela Gheorghiu, to award-winning Esperanza Spalding and Denis O’Hare. POSITION SUMMARY:
The Development Associate provides general administrative and clerical support to the members of the Development team. In addition, the Development Associate works collaboratively with the Director of Development Services and the Annual Fund Manager, assisting in the donor cultivation process.
The Development Associate will play a central role in gathering and compiling information and maintaining prospect and donor files, coordinating donor cultivation activities, stewardship events and other activities to help ensure the best possible experience for the donors and best outcomes for the organization.
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
- Providing direct administrative and clerical support for the day-to-day activities of the Development Department including: maintaining calendars, scheduling meetings, providing phone support, drafting and preparing correspondence or meeting materials, tracking expenses, preparing reports, and managing other general office functions
- Generating written correspondence, mail merge data lists for mailings, and maintain department files
- Maintaining the Development Department’s interactions within fundraising software
- Assisting in the planning, organizing and implementing of special events and dinners
- Staffing events as required
- Performing other administrative and clerical duties as assigned
REQUIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS INCLUDE:
- Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 2 years of administrative and/or fundraising experience required, preferably in nonprofits
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and experience working with relational databases (Raiser’s Edge or similar)
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills and the ability to interact effectively and diplomatically with donors, staff, board members, and others
- Strong organizational skills, the ability to prioritize and to meet multiple deadlines, and willingness to take initiative
- Ability to work occasional evenings and/or weekends as required for special events
- An interest in nonprofit fundraising and in gaining knowledge about the development process
