Responsibilities
Under direct supervision of the Executive Director, the Director of Marketing and Strategic Communications serves as a senior member of the Valley Performing Arts Center (VPAC) leadership team, and is a key contributor to developing and realizing revenue strategies, longer-term planning, programmatic vision, and all goals related to VPAC's reputation and visibility in the region. The Director oversees conception, planning, execution, and evaluation of all strategic communications, public relations, media relations, sales strategies, market data and research, online content, social and digital media, all printed materials, and creates assets used in promoting VPAC engagements; understands and represents fully the nuances of all performing arts; addresses all institutional communication needs, from annual reports to crisis communication, and aligns VPAC with the university's broader brand and reputation. Directly manages expenses and forecasting for marketing team budget, all ad buys, key contracts with vendors, marketing metrics and analytics, and a team of staff including Media Associate, Communications Specialist and interns. Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Equivalent to graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a Bachelor's degree in Marketing or a job-related field; Master's degree preferred. Equivalent to two years of progressively responsible professional/administrative experience in marketing with demonstrated ability to market a program and/or product and with exposure or responsibility for press/media relations and public relations outreach. Experience marketing in the performing arts is highly desirable.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Working knowledge of niche marketing, including but not limited to marketing to Spanish language audiences. In depth knowledge of performing arts, including multiple genres and disciplines. Knowledge in the Los Angeles market or similarly dynamic competitive market; sales revenue generation, and managing point-of-sale provider; and knowledge of data analysis. General knowledge of Ticket Master procedures is preferred. Robust technical skills including word processing knowledge, spreadsheet presentations, advanced internet research, social media, and customer relationship management. Email, graphic program skills and website management experience is a plus. Ability and specialized skills to: Manage data and research; use social and digital media to connect with audiences; manage creative assets; manage create staff and vendors, including graphic designers, copy writers, photographers, and videographers; manage a multi-faceted brand; manage sale and revenue goals; establish and maintain strong working relationships with VPAC management team, campus entities, and all external parties including press, media, artists, artist managers, vendors and community members; comply with all parameters, constraints, policies, and guidelines in managing marketing budget, and ability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment. Strong organizational skills, and the ability to generate timelines and use project management tools to manage multiple priorities; strong communication skills including professional writing, copy writing, public speaking and experience being interviewed by the media.
