Job Title
Elementary School Teaching Artist, iCAN Visual Arts Program

Major Responsibilities
• Be attentive to the entire group of student artists during each art period
• Reinforce art learning objectives and behavior management in a way that reflects iCAN’s mission and organizational culture
• Prepare, organize, and store art materials and supplies on an ongoing basis, including set-up and cleanup
• Keep a well-organized art studio
• Creatively manage student artwork and art displays
• Curate a professional and engaging student art show
• Attend regular professional development provided by iCAN and/or other supporting organizations
• Supervise and mentor the Art Assistant in your classroom
• Be in attendance at your school or at another iCAN site for at least 7.5 hours daily
• Integrate into your local school community and conduct yourself in an exemplary manner consistent with iCAN’s high standards as defined in the iCAN Employee Handbook
• Use mature and professional judgment when conducting your class and working with your school community

Qualifications
Must be able to carry out all of the duties listed above and the following:
• Possess a valid California teaching credential with authorization to teach art, proof of current TB test, have an EL Authorization, proof of NCLB (No Child Left Behind) subject matter compliance, and fulfilled CBEST requirements.
• Display the following qualities:
• Optimism, joy and an overwhelming love for children
• A strong understanding and belief in the importance of visual art in the social and emotional well-being of children
• Be a highly-qualified, experienced, and passionate teaching artist who creates art
• themselves, willingly shares their process and products with student artists, and believes in the mission of iCAN
• Create a safe classroom environment
• Be attentive and committed to the welfare and education of all student artists and
• show respect for the children you teach and their families
• Be dedicated to developing transformational art lessons that are highly engaging
• and inspiring and feature authentic, open-minded projects for student artists to create art
• Spanish language fluency is highly-desirable, but not required.

The mission of the Incredible Children’s Art Network (iCAN) is to bring high quality arts programs to children in Santa Barbara County, particularly those least likely to receive them. Through sustained creative learning opportunities that emphasize both artistic excellence and access, iCAN seeks to affect positive social change in the communities it serves.
