ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
This full-time position reports to the Director of Marketing for the Carpenter Performing Arts
Center. The focus of the position is to implement communication and related plans to promote
the Carpenter Center and its programs and performances, growing audience numbers, and
increasing ticket sales. Duties include coordinating all press relations regarding events at the
theatre (serving as liaison to all media outlets, writing releases and PSAs, scheduling interviews
and photo shoots, meeting reviewers, soliciting articles, etc.), coordinating social media activities
of the theatre (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.), administering all charity ticket requests, and
working with the Marketing team to ensure all promotional materials, whether print, electronic
or radio, are designed, created, scheduled and distributed in a timely fashion.
This position is an important player on the Carpenter Center’s Marketing team and supports all
efforts of the Marketing department. Must be able to navigate a fast-paced department with
shifting priorities, accept constructive criticism, prioritize work load, be professional and interact
positively with others. Regular attendance required. Some evening and weekend hours required.
EDUCATION, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in journalism, communication studies, English Literature, or
similar field, with at least three years of experience working for a non-profit arts organization in
cultivating and maintaining positive relations with media representatives. The preferred
candidate will also demonstrate knowledge of current trends in arts marketing, with emphasis on
performing arts centers; the ability to create effective relationships with volunteers, staff &
public; and work effectively alone and as part of the Carpenter Center team. Necessary working
knowledge of Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Power Point, Adobe Creative Suite and internet
programs.
SALARY:
$14.96 - $20.50 Hourly (Non-Exempt)
