Grants and Development Associate Position
California State Summer School Arts Foundation, Pasadena

The Grants and Development Associate of the California State Summer School Arts Foundation will assist the Executive Director in securing private sector funds to support The California State Summer School for the Arts. The California State Summer School for the Arts (CSSSA) is a creative, cutting-edge immersive program with the mission to nurture the next generation of young artists in animation, creative writing, dance, film, music, theatre and visual arts. Over 500 highly qualified high school aged students attend each year in a residential program on the campus of California Institute of the Arts (CalArts) in Valencia.
The Associate will have primary responsibility for managing the Donor Database (E Tapestry) and assist the Executive Director in managing all fund development activities. In addition, the Associate will share responsibility for planning and managing special events, such as an Annual Gala and the annual “Friends of CSSSA Day” at CSSSA at CalArts in July on an annual basis. The Associate will take a leading position on creating the yearly Annual Report. The Associate will also be responsible for design of invitations, postcards or other collateral material in support of fund development and alumni activities.
Duties and responsibilities shall include but not be limited to:
- Research and write grant proposals, maintain grant calendar and distribute grant reports
- Assist with Board meetings: preparation, Board packets, minutes
- Assist with event planning and execution: Friends of CSSSA Day, Donor events
- Update donor communications as needed – individual donor letters, postcards, invitations
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree, arts background strongly preferred
- Excellent writing ability including proofreading and editing skills
- Ability to understand organizational and program budgets for grants
- Effective organizational skills and the ability to follow through on detailed projects
- Ability to work with minimal oversight to manage deadlines and due dates
- Understanding of grant research skills, including Guidestar and the Foundation Center Directory
- Proficiency in Mac/Apple office computer programs, including Word, Excel, and Power Point
- Adobe Creative Suite and Donor Database experience strongly preferred
- Social Media savvy
This is 32-hour per week employee position at the CSSSA Foundation office in Pasadena. Salary commensurate with experience. Paid vacation and sick days benefits. Position is available immediately.
