Grants Officer
Job description

This position identifies, defines and develops funding sources from public and private foundations to support existing and planned program activities at Laguna Art Museum as well as develops, writes and submits grant proposals.

  • Manage, coordinate, track and evaluate the annual grant calendar and budget.
  • Research and identify grant opportunities.
  • Preparation of proposals and grant applications, with approval of the executive director.
  • Create and implement a strategy with the deputy director for advancement, to further grow the revenues generated from grants, originating from government, institutional and private sources.
  • Work closely with the deputy director for advancement to develop and track the grant budget and expected income throughout the year.
  • Write reports to government, corporate, and institutional foundations as required.
  • Collaborate with other museum departments for up-to-date program information and boiler plate preparation.
  • Assure the completion of acknowledgement/thank you letters relating to awarded grants.
  • Serve as a liaison to all funding agencies or organizations.
  • Manage and ensure accurate and timely entry of grant institution contact information.
  • Engage with program officers at organizations to solicit invitations to submit proposals.
  • Participate in important museum annual events (i.e. Art Auction and Palette to Palate) through attending the events and meeting key museum supporters as part of the museum’s fundraising team.
  • Special projects as needed.

Education and experience preparation: Requires Bachelor’s degree in communications, liberal arts, or other related area; two years of experience in grant writing and other fundraising activities for a cultural or educational institution; excellent verbal and written communication skills; be proficient in research, interpreting, and analyzing diverse data and possess the ability to work collaboratively and independently to achieve stated goals; ability to make sound, ethical decisions in a strategic manner; good organizational, project management, and computer skills; experience with Altru or other similar CRM software system preferred. Knowledge of grant search databases preferred.

Working conditions: Staff will work in general office conditions. The position requires a significant amount of computer work and use of general office equipment. Work will require occasional evening and weekend hours consistent with the museum’s schedule of events and activities.

Contact with others: The position involves a significant amount of contact with museum staff, volunteers and the public. This includes occasional interaction with museum trustees, donors, members and staff that may be of a sensitive or confidential nature. Discretion and sound judgement is required.
