Company Description: Curatorial Assistance is a creative think tank for the arts that provides a wide array of museum and exhibition preparation services including curatorial research, exhibition design, international exhibition touring, publication design and publishing, digital imaging, and art services including framing and crating. Since 1987 Curatorial Assistance, Inc. (CA) and its sister nonprofit organization, Curatorial Assistance Traveling Exhibitions (CATE), have toured more than 800 contemporary and historical art exhibitions to major museums, university galleries and art centers worldwide.

Digital Imaging/Archive Intern:
CA seeks several interns to play a crucial role in the digitizing, cataloguing and conservation of a major photographic collection made by Britain's preeminent Modernist photographer from 1907 to 1945 (Learn more about E.O. Hoppé at www.eohoppe.com). This position involves extensive Photoshop work and digital archive management, as well as the conservation/archival of the original negatives and prints from this special collection. Work on additional photographic collections as needed.
Creative Marketing Intern:
CATE seeks creative marketing interns to aid in the development of new strategies and organization in the marketing of traveling exhibitions to museums around the world, including social media development. This position teaches database management, marketing and outreach strategies, systems organization, online research, writing, editing and graphic design. The experience also provides networking opportunities and increased knowledge of worldwide art museums, exhibitions and collections, museum procedures, and creative communication. We primarily use (and will teach) FileMaker Pro and Adobe InDesign, among other programs.
Curatorial & Registrar Assistant Intern:
CATE seeks motivated, detail-oriented interns to assist with research and consolidation of information on existing and incoming exhibitions, creating checklists, and performing registration/condition reporting of incoming and outgoing artworks. This position may require standing for long periods, handling sensitive artworks, and working with the Art Services department to ensure proper preservation and handling of artworks.
Non-profit Development Intern:
CATE seeks interns interested in developing their knowledge and practice in the field of non-profit management, including research, writing, and editing of grant proposals, fundraising strategies, and community outreach. Additional consideration will be given to those interested in developing educational guidelines and course suggestions to accompany traveling exhibitions.
Social Media Intern:
Seeking professional, detail-oriented interns interested in developing skills as social media manager by helping to maintain a visible presence for CA and CATE across multiple social media platforms. This position requires quick thinking, cross-referencing of information, excellent writing and editing skills, and good judgement. Maintain social media calendar, conduct research, engage with audiences, and draft/schedule posts across platforms.
Qualifications: All successful candidates should have excellent communication and written English skills. Preference will be given to candidates with demonstrated ability in writing, editing, art history, photography, Photoshop, InDesign, web design, database management and online research capabilities. Successful applicants are self-motivated, creative, organized, and eager to both learn and share their skills.
Location: Curatorial Assistance is located at 113 East Union Street, Pasadena, in the heart of Old Town Pasadena. We are close to public transit, including the Metro Gold Line one block away, and can offer free parking to interns.
Schedule/Pay: This is an unpaid volunteer internship with an estimated three-month duration. Reimbursement of parking costs and $10 per day is provided for expenses. Minimum of 16 hours per week. Full-time welcome. Course credit is possible. Schedule may be arranged to suit individual needs, though we prefer interns to work two or more days per week. Curatorial Assistance open office hours are Monday - Friday, 8:00a-6:00p.
