The Colburn School is a world-class performing arts school where a renowned faculty provides instruction in music, dance and drama to dedicated students of all ages.

Summary
The managing editor is responsible for all publications in print and on the web. The managing editor sets the editorial direction of and writes for key institutional publications; supervises the work of the web and digital assets editor and social media specialist; and collaborates with colleagues to ensure a smooth and efficient workflow for all editorial projects. In conjunction with the Vice President of Communications and senior management, the managing editor will be a key player in building a communications strategy to manage the Colburn School brand, will work closely with third-party contractors, and will interact with colleagues from around the institution to tell the broader Colburn story.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Determines the subject matter and tone of information pertaining or relevant to the Colburn School through print and web publications.
2. Writes and edits a quarterly newsletter which begins publication in September, 2014; assists in a monthly president’s letter (in conjunction with the vice president of communications and the president); writes other news articles and communications pieces as required.
3. Oversees creation of a weekly e-newsletter and social media content delivered to Colburn stakeholders.
4. Evaluates the effectiveness of current editorial outlets created at Colburn, and advises the vice president of communications on the creation of new publications.
5. Maintains and enforces editorial standards to ensure that all public-facing content stays true to the institutional editorial direction set by the vice president of communications. Reviews marketing collateral and materials created by outside departments for adherence to house style.
6. Recommends and, in consultation with the vice president of communications, hires third party writers and editors as needed. Provides oversight as required.
7. Assists with editorial needs as required, including copyediting and writing.
8. Manages web and digital assets editor to ensure Colburn website enhances the mission of the Colburn School and delivers high quality, relevant and useful information to all stakeholders.
9. Manages social media specialist to ensure Colburn is utilizing social media optimally and presents a consistent voice across all forms of social media and all divisions of the school.
10. Performs related duties as required or assigned.
Required knowledge, skills and education
Candidates should have at least five years of experience of writing and editing, with strong project management skills. Familiarity with music, dance, and the performing arts is strongly recommended, and a desire to learn quickly about them is essential. In addition, the Colburn School is looking for the following qualities:
