A Place Called Home is a dynamic, non-profit youth center in South Central Los Angeles. APCH provides educational programs, counseling, mentoring, music, dance and art classes, and fitness opportunities. As youth participate in our programs, they discover interests and talents and develop a better sense of themselves and their place in the world around them. The Digital Media Instructor is responsible for designing and delivering exciting, inspiring, creative and educational digital media curricula and instruction to APCH youth and family members from 8 years old through adulthood, providing hands-on access to 21st Century technological tools to be competitive in our highly digitized world. The Digital Media Instructor will supervise a series of classes including basic, intermediate & advanced instruction in computer and digital media literacy, digital photography, graphic layout and design, video production & editing, and other classes as determined by interest and need. The Digital Media Instructor will also engage and collaborate with external digital media entities, contractors, guest artists and technicians and volunteers to bring resources and expertise for APCH members to experience and learn about career and creative opportunities to engage their potential.


  • The Digital Media Instructor provides educational programming and support in basic to advanced computer literacy, digital photography, graphic layout and design, and video production/editing skills/instruction by fulfilling the following responsibilities:
  • Develop & implement digital media curriculum per semester for members (Elementary, Middle & High School) with integrated implementation of R.E.A.C.H.*
  • Develop adult curriculum in collaboration with outside agencies and other resources as required
  • Collaborate with APCH departments to produce original & creative APCH member-made videos & photos
  • Produce and provide support for member-made short videos per semester, showcasing members’ work online @ the APCH YouTube Channel and for collateral for APCH Board reports and other presentations
  • Produce and provide support for member-made videos focused on celebrating cultural diversity, national holidays, and special APCH events (such as: New Year’s Race, Health & Garden Expo, etc.)
  • Update and maintain APCH YouTube Channel
  • Maintain, update, & track progress of Digital Media Strategic Plan
  • Responsible for Digital Media budget planning & oversight each fiscal year
  • Responsible for supervising members during scheduled early supervision and homework time as assigned
  • Track and input member attendance through Kidtrax on a daily basis
  • Tracks member participation and progress in classes
  • Provide supervision for the computer lab during classes and open lab times
  • Conduct pre and post R.E.A.C.H. evaluations for students
  • Attend all required program meetings (supervisor weekly check-in, case conference, monthly supervisor’s staff meetings, bi-monthly department meetings, weekly TouchPoint meetings, etc.)
  • Submit program reports (monthly, class reports, reports for funders specifically for Digital Media)
  • Responsible for creating an exciting, fun, educational & clean learning environment for all members
  • Writes Digital Media articles & stories for APCH Newsletters & Board reports
  • Responsible for daily maintenance of Digital Media Lab and assignment of student Mac laptops, PCs, cameras, computer & camera peripherals
  • Reports computer maintenance, upgrades, and software concerns in a timely matter to IT Coordinator and immediate supervisor
  • Supervise assigned volunteers and interns
  • Collaborate with BTF Higher Education Dept. to support preparation and distribution of computers to incoming college freshmen
  • Other Responsibilities
  • Remain informed of best practices, software updates, and resources in order to keep APCH technology up to date and in excellent working condition
  • Attend internal or external meetings as requested or required
  • Regular attendance, accountability and punctuality with regard to work meetings and commitments
  • Perform other tasks as assigned

  • Speech and hearing within normal ranges; speech clarity sufficient for standard face to face and telephone communications
