School Programs Assistant

The Huntington seeks an energetic, creative and highly organized individual to provide administrative, logistical and programmatic support for the School Programs and Partnership Manager. The individual would assist in Huntington’s school and teacher programs, including docent-led tours, school partnership programs, special events, and professional development for teachers. The successful candidate will be able to work independently while also serving as an integral member of the K- 12 education team.

This position reports to the School Programs and Partnership Manager and Director of Education and is temporary.

Essential Functions

  • Oversees logistical and administrative aspects of the Huntington’s school tour program, including registration, scheduling, mailings, and other operational aspects of the program.
  • Recruits teachers, promotes the programs to school administrators and teachers
  • Maintains database of participating and potential teachers including contact information, subjects and grades taught, and records of participation.
  • Serves as liaison and logistics coordinator for school partnership programs.
  • Provides logistic support for school-related special events and performances.
  • Assists with docent scheduling for school tours.
  • Serves as liaison and logistics coordinator for teacher professional development programs.
  • Correlates national and state standards; formats all relevant documents into format for web publication; coordinates web publications with communications staff
  • Tracks expenses: maintains accurate records of project expenses; tracks project expenses relative to budget
  • Responsible for bus reimbursement to qualifying school and school systems
  • Responsible for Huntington credit card expenditures.

Other Functions

  • Participates in interdepartmental teams in the development collections-based K-12 programs.
  • Other duties as assigned.


  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills absolutely required
  • Ability to be a tactful and courteous team player who can handle occasional high-pressure situations is required
  • Excellent oral and listening communication skills and the ability to work well with people of diverse cultures, ages, and economic backgrounds.
  • Knowledge of the various forms of media used in educational programs.
  • Excellent written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage in productive relationships within an organization and within the field.
  • Successful experience working with volunteers.
  • Proficient skills with Microsoft spreadsheet, databases, word processing, and presentation programs required

Working Conditions

  • Office, botanical garden, library, and art gallery settings. Must be physically able to get around 200-acre site. Able to lift 20 pounds. Must be willing to work occasional Saturdays and evenings.
