POSITION SUMMARY Pacific Symphony Youth Ensembles (PSYE) is seeking an enthusiastic person with a desire to learn about arts administration to serve as Manager for Pacific Symphony Youth Orchestra (PSYO) for the PSYE program. The PSYO program is designed to provide students aged 14 – 18 an opportunity to play in a high level performing Symphony Orchestra. 

Specific Job Responsibilites: 

• Set-up seating for each rehearsal and concert 
• Facilitate communication to students and parents 
• Coordinate operational needs with rehearsal/performance venue representatives as well stage manager for productions 
• Produce memos with event timeline and information for distribution to staff, students, and parents 
• Track and process absence requests and enforce all program policy 
• Plan and implement annual weekend retreat 
• Hire personnel (coaches, guest artists, vendors) and process payroll 
• Collect and submit program fees • Assist in management of annual PSYE auditions 
• Obtain all percussive needs 
• Manage and maintain contact database 
• Serve as ensemble librarian: Order music, prepare parts and coordinate sheet music needs of Music Director, students, sectional coaches 
• Assist with additional duties as requested by the Director 

Successful candidates will have a practical knowledge of classical music, orchestra instrumentation needs and an enthusiasm and dedication to the orchestral management field. 

Requirements and Skills:

• Have a valid driver license and regular access to a vehicle 
• Have ability to lift 25 lbs (you will be asked to do this for much of the non-office work, i.e. rehearsal and concert production)• Be familiar with MS Word, Excel, and Outlook and have ability to learn other computer programs as necessary 
• Be over 18 years of age 
• Possess a College degree in the Arts (candidates working towards this degree are considered) 
• Be enthusiastic about working in ensemble operations and with student musicians, volunteers, and artists and be able to manage events in a flexible, calm, patient, and forgiving manner
• Have strong organizational, detail-management, written, and interpersonal communication skills 
• Be self-motivated, with the ability to manage own time • Have excellent problem-solving skills 
• Have a basic and working knowledge of orchestra percussion instruments 
• Be punctual, persistent, timely, creative, and have sustained energy

Supervisory Responsibility: Responsible for supervising student members, parent and/or community volunteers, and all hired professional personnel.
