The Younes and Soraya Nazarian Center for the Performing Arts (The Soraya) is seeking a Graphic Designer to join its Marketing team and help promote The Soraya’s visual identity in its print and digital advertisements, as well as serving as a key role in managing and creating assets representing The Soraya’s brand and 50+ presented artists.

 

Open since 2011 and located on the campus of California State University, Northridge (CSUN), The Soraya serves as the intellectual and cultural heart of the San Fernando Valley of Los Angeles, providing vibrant and relevant programming for the region’s communities. The Soraya presents a broad range of local, national and international artists each season; from classical, jazz, big band, and Latin and Mexican regional music concerts to dance, theater, and family programming in its state-of-the-art Great Hall with 1,700 seats as well as the 500-seat Plaza del Sol Performance Hall.

 

Under general supervision, the Graphic Designer/Website and Digital Assets Associate is responsible for working independently on a variety of small to large-scale projects, producing designs to meet the diverse communication needs of The Soraya. The incumbent designs advertising and collateral materials including but not limited to brochures, newsletters, posters, flyers, maps, banners, and other digital assets, utilizing various assets provided by artist management to enhance print material, creating assets when required; and creates high-level visual communications and develops graphic content consistent with The Soraya and CSUN identity or templates. Following the Soraya and CSUN brand and style guidelines, creates electronic filing systems and maintains digital assets provided by artists’ management and the Soraya staff; uploads and builds assets; and performs other duties as assigned.

 

This position requires the equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree in Art/graphic design, fine arts or related field from an accredited college/university. Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis up to two years. Equivalent to one year of graphic design experience is required.  

 

The Graphic Designer/Website and Digital Assets Associate must have working knowledge of: principles of artistic and graphic design and illustration; applicable graphic, design, and desktop publishing software packages (i.e Adobe Creative Cloud, Google Drive, Microsoft Office Suite); experience using Mac computers and robust technical skills in TM Messenger; and the use of color, tone, shadowing, harmony, and perspective drawing. Comprehensive knowledge of graphic design and production principles and communication theory including a basic understanding of marketing and promotion concepts. General knowledge of: principles of print design, typeface, color, layout, and production techniques and systems, techniques, and processes used in web site design, photography, printmaking, and other applicable media. Ability and specialized skills to: design, layout, and prepare finished artwork to develop a visual product; effectively use various software packages to create visual material; understand communication goals; communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Advanced graphic design skills and artistic ability in order to translate communication needs into an artistic design. Ability to handle multiple priorities, consult and communicate effectively with the Soraya staff and internal departments to interpret and translate their needs into effective visual output. Work independently; adhere to deadlines; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships in a fast-paced creative performing arts environment. Accuracy and attention to detail.

 

Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule

The salary range for this classification is: $3224 - $5665 per month.

The anticipated HIRING RANGE: $3224 - $4350, dependent upon qualifications and experience.

 

HOURS: Full Time; 40 hours per week; 8:00am - 5:00pm, Monday through Friday.

 

REG: This is a Regular position with a one-year probationary period.
