Get Lit – Words Ignite is recruiting TWO summer interns through the Los Angeles County Art Commission Summer Internship Program. We are offering a full-time, paid Development & Strategy Internship and an Education Program Internship for 10-weeks beginning close to June 1, 2019. The positions pay $14.25/hour. 2019 Arts Internship positions are open to currently enrolled undergraduate (2 or 4-year) college students who reside or attend college in Los Angeles County. Students must have completed at least one semester of college by June 1, 2019, or will complete their undergraduate degree between May 1 – September 1, 2019 in order to participate. Students must be able to legally work in the United States.
Get Lit – Words Ignite fuses classic and spoken word poetry to increase teen literacy on the page and in visual media. We cultivate enthusiastic learners emboldened to inspire social consciousness in diverse communities. Our programs include: In-School Program taught in 110 schools; After-School Programs; Summer Camp; Classic Slam youth poetry competition; Get Lit Players performance troupe; Literati Leadership Core; and Get Lit Media production studio.

Development & Strategy Intern
Get Lit-Words Ignite seeks a Development & Strategy Intern for summer 2019 to assist our Development Coordinator and our senior staff members in the fundraising operations of our youth empowerment and literacy organization. S/he will assist in the areas of donor communication and database management, as well as the implementation of an annual summer fundraising campaign. The Development Intern will also aid the in the planning and execution of small-scale events such as monthly youth open mics and productions. S/he will also be responsible for daily development-related correspondence, data entry, web-based research, assisting with the preparation of meetings with major partners, and liaising between members of the senior leadership team.
Get Lit asks that the Development and Strategy Intern have excellent computer skills, ideally with experience in Word, Excel, and G Suite, and online platforms such as Airtable and Salesforce. The right candidate has an interest in fundraising and event production, education, and literary and/or performing arts. The ability to communicate professionally and effectively with a wide range of people including teenagers, parents of students, professional staff members, and organization Board Members is important.

Education Program Intern
Get Lit-Words Ignite seeks an Education Program Intern for summer 2019 to assist our Director of Education & Pedagogy in the operations of a youth empowerment and literacy organization. A major part of the project will involve supporting the assembly and publication of our In-School Program poetry anthology for teachers for the 2019-2020 school year, and the development of other curriculum materials. S/he/they will also assist in the collection of classroom metrics from program participants, and in the compilation and digitization of these assessments. S/he/they will assist Education Managers with instruction at our two-week intensive Summer Camp.
Get Lit asks that the Education and Intern have excellent computer skills, ideally with experience in Word, Excel, and G Suite. The right candidate also has an interest in teaching and education, and in literary and/or performing arts. They should be an avid reader and writer. The ability to communicate professionally and effectively with a wide range of people including teenagers, parents of students, professional staff members, and organization Board Members is important.
