The Pablove Foundation

The LTA position is a part-time, non-exempt position. This is a semester-long position from August – December 2023 which may or may not be extended based on the needs of the foundation. Weekly hours may vary depending on workload. The position includes all responsibilities incorporated and outlined in this position description.

The Pablove Foundation partners with community and health organizations in locations across the United States to bring children living with cancer the joy of artistic expression through the art of photography. Each program is designed to meet the needs of children living with cancer and provides opportunities for students to learn basic concepts in photography, participate in a shared community, and to help them develop their creative voice. As an LTA you will work with students in our introduction to photography program by facilitating the learning process and encouraging their artistic development with the goal of increasing each child’s overall sense of well-being. The LTA is the lead person to facilitate and teach students according to the Pablove curriculum guidelines. The LTA will closely work with Pablove staff who are responsible for overseeing the quality of the project’s educational materials, resources, and implementation of the Pablove Shutterbugs program. In addition, this position will work closely with hospital liaisons, Shutterbugs students and their families, volunteers, and Shutterbugs community partners. The primary responsibility of this position is to conduct the teaching and support of the assigned Shutterbugs program classes.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

This position will have the following responsibilities, including but not limited to:

  • Class Preparation
  • Participate in teaching artist training (facilitated by Pablove staff)
  • Collaborate with Pablove’s hospital partner liaisons on student recruitment and tabling
  • Support student recruitment efforts by maintaining communication with student applicants prior to, during, and immediately after the program
  • Work with volunteer teaching assistants and other volunteers to prepare them for the 5-week program
  • Co-host a welcome orientation for parents and families
    Class Execution
  • Effectively lead instruction and facilitate successful program implementation and lead students through a creative, interactive, student-centered process
  • Oversee and manage classroom engagement including student progress and attendance
  • Execute weekly class logistics, and communicate needs to prepare shipments, correspondence, arrangements, etc. with guidance from headquarter staff
  • Download, examine, and select photos appropriate for the Foundation’s use in marketing, digital media, and gallery show purposes
  • Guide volunteer teaching assistants and other volunteers in executing class activities to reflect a welcoming, creative and age-appropriate experience for various student age groups
  • Overall Program and Logistics
  • Participate in meetings relating to project planning, implementation, and program and participant evaluations
  • Understand that you are the primary and most visible link for students and parents into the local Shutterbugs program and take an active interest do your part for student communication and engagement
  • Collaborate with headquarter staff to determine the needs and structure of student graduation and gallery show(s)
  • Represent the Foundation and its program in a professional and enthusiastic manner in all communications
  • Encourage and build mutual trust, respect, and cooperation among collaborators
  • Remain flexible and responsive to changes in the scope of the program model
  • Contribute to continuous improvement work on curriculum and overall program
  • Other tasks as assigned

EXPERIENCE NEEDED:

  • Mastery of manual and digital photography techniques, relative computer programs and applications, printing, image editing, lighting and composition, portfolio development, and professional exhibition standards
  • Love for photography, teaching, and children: Strong teaching and motivation skills working with children, including classroom or photography workshop teaching experience
  • Minimum of 1 year experience working with people with developmental disabilities
  • Efficiency with Microsoft Office/Google Suites or similar product suite
  • Access to personal devices including internet access, phone and computer
  • Correspondence with families, hospitals, community partners, and Pablove HQ

EXPERIENCE DESIRED:

  • Strong project management + follow-up skills – incredibly organized + detail-oriented
  • Strong communication skills: both verbal and written
  • Ability to be effective in a telecommuting environment (innovative, making things work, collaborative, effective), as well as work efficiently as part of a team
  • Familiarity with the local area, with ties to artist communities
  • High integrity combined with tact and people skills
  • Enthusiasm, dedication, sense of humor, and a drive to succeed
  • Love of details to substantiate impactful story telling
