Position Seeking: City Council - District 1
Question 1: Please share a meaningful experience you had with art (visual, dance, drama, music, media arts) while growing up and its impact on you.
There is no one specific time that art has led to a meaningful experience. Visits to view curated art at museums something I enjoy doing has allowed be to view life through the lens of the artist eye and be inspired and various way. Performance arts likewise inspires and demonstrates what is capable through dedication and hard work. Book, media and film each have had lasting impressions on my life enlightened me, educated and helped to transform my thinking in ways that are more critical and creative.
Question 2: What do you believe the role of City Council should be in developing and supporting the region’s arts and cultural infrastructure?
City government I believe has a strong responsibility to support arts through regional arts and culture infrastructure, and can use our position to leverage more investment and arts infrastructure planning.
Question 3: What’s your vision for the city? What role, if any, does art and culture play in advancing that vision?
My vision for the city of Inglewood is improving quality of life for all residents and arts and culture play a key role in this vision due to the diverse ways arts and culture can contribute to improving quality of life.
Questions 4: A recent report by the Otis College of Design found that 1 in every 6 jobs in LA County supports the creative sector and economy in Los Angeles County. If elected, how will you aim to ensure the continued vitality and growth of the creative economy and the artistic community that it supports?
I will work to support the local arts by supporting the local arts economy through partnerships with arts educational institutions, commissions, and non-profits to help to develop ways to help arts become sustainable and grow.
