The Department of Art at the University of California, Santa Barbara invites applications for a pool of qualified temporary lecturers to teach in the Department of Art for upcoming openings during the 2018-19 Academic Year.
Multi-disciplinary Lecturer with an emphasis in any one or combination of the following areas: Digital Media, Video, Visual Literacy
Courses needed may include an introduction to digital video courses that embrace video and the moving image as an evolving medium in relationship to its contemporary and historical forms. This includes the applied use of digital video technology (camera work, editing, distribution), the function of video as a medium for exhibition and display, and the critical study of video's potential to encourage student creativity and imagination, as well as engaging its relationships to film, theater, television, digital systems, popular, poetic, and political cultures.
Screening of applicants is ongoing and will continue as needed. The number of positions varies from quarter to quarter, depending on the needs of the department. Positions may range from one quarter to one year at 33 to 67% time with the possibility of reappointment.
Basic qualifications: Applicant should possess MFA or an equivalent graduate level degree (e.g. an MFA or MA from a foreign country). College or University teaching experience and a record of exhibitions and projects are desired. The Department is especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community through research, teaching and service.
