Grand Vision Foundation is a non-profit community arts organization whose mission is to inspire and engage the diverse Los Angeles Harbor/South Bay community through culturally-inclusive arts and educational experiences. Meet the Music (MTM) is Grand Vision’s youth education program, which nurtures the next generation of our creative community. Founded in 2009, MTM has grown into a model education program, annually serving over 1,800 fourth and fifth graders in the LA Harbor area and beyond through innovative, sequential musicals-kill-building and engagement curricula. Under the supervision of the Director of Music Education, the Music Education Coordinator/Teaching Artist will teach our fourth-grade program, Roots of Music Program (RoMP), and provide support to all MTM programs.

Primary areas of responsibility Include:

Teaching

● Deliver in-school lessons for Roots of Music Program (RoMP), a semester-long fourth-grade program that teaches music fundamentals through a multicultural lens
● Facilitate scheduling and logistics with participating schools
● Maintain communication with classroom teachers and provide classroom support to other teaching artists as needed

Program Administration

● Prepare program schedules
● Coordinate student field-trip concerts and events including transportation
● Assist in organizing student recitals
● Keep inventory of program supplies and facilitate school site deliveries
● Research and enhance curricular and presentational materials
● Gather and analyze program evaluation data and create reports
● Edit instructional videos and sound recordings as needed
● Copy and transcribe musical scores from time to time

Required Qualifications
● A commitment to providing inclusive, equitable education to all young people
● A Bachelor’s Degree in music, education or related field
● Excellent classroom management skills including at least two years of in-school or after-school teaching experience (grades K-12)
● High level of musicianship and artistry as a teacher/performer
● Exceptional organizational and time-management skills
● Strong written and verbal communication skills
● Interpersonal skills and the ability to work as part of a team
● An ability to read and write music
● Familiarity with data analysis
● Must be able to clear a TB test and Live Scan background check
● Valid California driver’s license
● Ability to lift 25 pounds

Desired Qualifications
● Fluency in Spanish
● Experience working with students from diverse ethnic and economic backgrounds
● Ability to use a variety of teaching strategies to address student learning styles
● Some familiarity with culturally relevant/responsive pedagogies, social emotional learning or critical race theory
