Arts for LA has launched a free Advocacy Workshop Initiative for community members in the City of Los Angeles, Pasadena and Long Beach. This interactive workshop series is designed for local stakeholders. The goal of the initiative is to build networks of engaged, empowered advocates with the tools needed to voice support for arts & culture and arts education throughout the county.

Each series is comprised of four sequential workshops. Based on established community organizing and civic engagement models, the series has been adapted to support local arts infrastructure. Tailored to each local community, workshop curriculum includes advocacy best practices, effective tactics and community involvement strategies. Interested community members are encouraged to attend the complete set of trainings, as the series will culminate in the group creation of an advocacy plan for each host community.

The Advocacy Workshop Initiative will form the foundation of local community arts teams in Pasadena, Long Beach and the City of Los Angeles. Working in alignment with the Arts for LA Policy Framework, the goal of the initiative is to convene, inform and inspire a group of local stakeholders to:

• Advocate for local cultural infrastructure and arts education
• Develop leaders who identify as arts advocates and can effectively lead advocacy campaigns
• Raise community awareness of and support for the arts in schools and civic life
• Increase visibility of the community’s support for the arts to local policymakers, and educate them about arts and cultural issues in their community

All trainings are free and open to the public, but seating is limited and reservations will be taken on a first-come, first-serve basis.  Interested community members are encouraged to register for the series in their geographic area.
