Arts for LA Announces Changes to its Board of Directors

Thu, 07/26/2012 - 3:00pm

Arts for LA is pleased to announce Terence McFarland of LA Stage Alliance and Debra J.T. Padilla of SPARC have stepped into roles on the board of directors as chair and vice chair, respectively.

Leni Boorstin

Immediate past chair Leni Boorstin, director of community and government affairs for the Los Angeles Philharmonic Association, helped guide the organization through the initiation and launch of Arts for LA’s 2013-2017 Strategic Plan, which sets the scope and vision for ambitious growth and development.  In addition, Ms. Boorstin oversaw the revision of the Arts & Culture Policy Framework for Los Angeles County, a document used to help guide collective advocacy on issues affecting arts and culture throughout the region, and effectively formalized the board’s internal committee structure, where much of its work is developed.

Terence McFarland

Mr. McFarland is the CEO of the largest arts service organization in Los Angeles County.  Under his leadership, LA Stage Alliance has grown the annual Arts Census project into an evermore comprehensive snapshot of audience participation in the arts within Los Angeles County.  His work with the board will focus on the implementation of the strategic plan at the governance level.

Debra J.T. Padilla

Ms. Padilla has fostered years of public dialog and social justice work through the arts as the executive director of SPARC, the Social and Public Art Resource Center. Ms. Padilla’s work through SPARC occurs at the nexus of the arts, education, and advocacy, which falls into alignment with the three urgent arts and culture policy issue areas identified by Los Angeles County stakeholders.

Melody Kanschat

Also joining the board this month is Melody Kanschat, who recently concluded a twenty-two year career with the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA), most recently serving as its president chief operating officer.  Ms. Kanschat also serves on the board of Move LA, a transportation coalition dedicated to ensuring Los Angeles County residents have access to safe, efficient, and clean public transportation.

Arts for LA is grateful for the participation of these dedicated leaders.  Learn more about our board of directors by visiting our Board Members page.
