California Alliance for Arts Education Releases Paper on Title I Funding
California Alliance for Arts Education recently authored A Policy Pathway: Embracing Arts Education to Achieve Title I Goals. Title I schools are those in which a majority of students live in low socioeconomic circumstances; Title I funds, provided by the federal government, are designed to supplement and enhance learning and parental involvement in these school sites in order to ensure all public school students can learn on a level playing field.
"A 2011 survey conducted by Arts for All found that students attending Title I schools in Los Angeles had disproportionately low access to arts education." The paper outlines the ways in which school districts can embed the arts in education strategies using Title I funding, a move supported by both Arne Duncan, the US Secretary of Education, and Tom Torlakson, the California State Superintendent.
