Arts for LA StaffArts for LA seeks an undergraduate or graduate intern for the spring 2011 semester with strong interest in both arts & culture and advocacy/civic engagement. He/she will be engaged in a research project mapping cultural infrastructure, and will also work closely with Development & Operations Manager Camille Schenkkan on campaigns, membership and programming. The intern will be introduced to the field of arts advocacy, as well as basic nonprofit administration, website management and Customer Relationship Management (CRM) tools. The ideal candidate will be an excellent writer with good computer skills. Although we will provide mentorship and guidance, independent and self-motivated workers are preferred. Above all, we are looking for someone who believes in the work we do. Sense of humor and grace under pressure is a plus. Please spend time exploring prior to applying.

Arts for LA is a 501(c)3 nonprofit working to foster a healthy environment in which arts and culture may thrive and be accessible to all in the Los Angeles region. We employ a combination of “high-touch” and “high-tech” approaches to inform and empower a network of local stakeholders throughout the County. Arts for LA works with over 19,000 local subscribers and 250+ members. We are a three-person operation; our intern will work under the Development & Operations Manager, but will be in close contact with the Executive Director and Advocacy Manager as well.

The intern will work out of Arts for LA’s downtown LA office on one afternoon or morning per week, set according to student’s schedule. We would prefer the intern to receive school credit for the internship and are happy to coordinate with his/her institution as needed.

To apply, please send a resume and cover letter to Camille Schenkkan at Please address your interest in both Arts for LA and the internship duties. The deadline for application is December 10, 2010, with interviews the following week and a final decision by mid December.
