LA County Arts Internship Program Funded for 2011
On Tuesday, July 6th, Los Angeles County Supervisors Antonovich and Ridley-Thomas brought a joint amendment to restore funding to several Los Angeles County Arts Commission programs, including the Arts Internship program.
The amendment provides $250,000 in funding for next summer’s program. Supervisor Yaroslavsky joined Ridley-Thomas and Antonovich to pass the amendment 3-2.
The allocation will fund approximately 75 internships at nonprofit performing, presenting, literary and municipal arts organizations. This is the same number of internships provided during summer 2010, but still represents a 50% reduction in the program from 2009.
We applaud the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors for their continued investment in the future of Los Angeles’ creative sector during difficult financial times.
