Leased City-Owned Properties Issue in City Council, 5/19

The Leased City-Owned Properties/Non-profit Organizations Council File has been scheduled for the Wednesday, May 19th City Council meeting.  This is the full City Council, not the Arts, Parks & Aging Committee as the letter-writing campaign requested.For the background on this issue, please click here.

We are encouraging advocates to do the following:

1. Call your City Council representativeand urge them to oppose the proposal.  Phone numbers can be found at; Arts Deputy contact info can be downloaded here. Suggested talking points:

  • Elimination of the Nonprofit Lease Subsidy will have an immediate negative effect on quality of life in Los Angeles
  • This issue needs to be given a full economic impact review in the Arts, Parks & Aging Committee

2. Get the word out to your networks & patrons about the devastating effect this change could have on communities throughout Los Angeles.  We need to generate as many letters as possible prior to Wednesday's meeting.  Send the letter-writing campaign via Facebook, Twitter and email.

3. Attend the Los Angeles City Council meetingon May 19th, 2010, to give public testimony regarding the value of the Nonprofit Lease Subsidy Issue and provide a visual show of support within Council chambers. Discussion of the motion will occur between 9a.m. and 1p.m. (agenda will be announced on Monday, 5/17/10) at City Hall, Room 340,  200 North Spring St. Los Angeles, CA 90012.
