Santa Monica Arts Education Advocacy TeamSanta Monica-Malibu Unified School District’s new superintendent was introduced to the Santa Monica-Malibu Arts Education Advocacy Team and the District Advisory Council (DAC) Wednesday night at the school district's office.

Among greetings, updates and other housekeeping elements such as language to be used in agenda items, Sandy Lyon, superintendent for the Santa Monica Malibu Unified School District made an appearance as both groups held their first joint meeting of the year.

Lyon said community involvement is what excited her the most about the gatherings.

She added that parent testimony such as the one given during the meeting by a mother of a now college student on how her daughter benefited from arts education, impressed her.

The creation of a bulletin with an art events calendar for parents was among the agenda items added to the next joint meeting which is scheduled for October 19.
