Artists of all ages, backgrounds, and career stages--working in nearly any mode or medium imaginable--are encouraged to apply for residencies at SAW.

SAW offers a self-funded Independent Artist residency program--for an individual or group--which provides scalable pricing and a rolling application deadline for accommodations and facility access. The cost is $490-$700 a week for camping or indoor room, meals, and studio, with additional cost for facility access and workshops.

Salem Art Works also offers three fully subsidized Artist residency programs—for Fellows, Studio Artists, and Young Artists—which provide a scholarship for free housing, meals, studio, facility access, and include a complimentary workshop. Facility access includes blacksmithing, ceramics, wood kilns, glass blowing and glass casting, stone, print making, metal fab, and cast aluminum and iron.

Independent Artist residency dates are flexible, ranging from 4 days to 4 months. The Fellowship program is the subsidized version of the Independent Artist Residency and can be 2-4 weeks. The Studio Artist program is a shop specific work-exchange and the Young Artist program is a general work-exchange, both programs are offered for two 8-week sessions.

All of SAWs programs, activities, and services are provided equally without regard to race, color, religion, national origin, sexual orientation, gender identity or disability.
