JOB DESCRIPTION
Position: Art Teacher (Part-Time, Hourly)
Location: 3630 E 3rd St. Los Angeles, CA 90063 (East Los Angeles)
Reports to: Executive Director
Hours: Exact days/hours vary based on assignment
Compensation: Depending on experience and education
Desired Availability: Saturdays from 9:00am- 4:00pm; some weekdays from 4:00pm-6:30pm
MISSION
Since 1945, LAMusArt is a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the lives of youngsters by providing them with
the resources for a high quality arts education. We aim to provide opportunities for underserved students in East Los
Angeles and its surrounding communities, regardless of race, gender,aptitude, or socio-economic status, to engage in and
have access to multidisciplinary and sequential lowcost and/or no-cost arts education programs.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Art Instructors will design curriculum and lead weekly art classes for our weekly students ages 5-18. Flexibility and
creativity are central to this position as well as the ability to create visual arts projects that can be produced within the
one and a half-hour time frame of the class each week. Teachers should:
• Engage students to learn new art techniques, methods, and creating art as a form of self-expression and
confidence building
• Assist students in refining their skills for drawing, painting, mixed media and other art-making methods
• Teach students a new set of arts vocabulary, as well as enhance their current of art when learning about different
colors, shapes, and images
• Teach students to identify various art forms and techniques, and describe their differences. The students will
follow directions, and will have the platform to invent using their art tools
• Present art projects at Open House and Art Competition that are consistent with VAPA Standards
• Encourage students to connect with their imagination and discover their individual creative points of view
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Four-year undergraduate degree in studio art, art history or art education or equivalent experience
• Two years teaching art to youths of elementary, middle and high school age
• One year preparing, age-appropriate curriculum in-line with stated VAPA Standards
• Innovative curriculum samples of visual arts projects that demonstrate an understanding of VAPA standards
• An imaginative approach to teaching art to students
• The ability to manage a classroom of up to 15 students
• Reliable transportation
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Experience working with children from diverse ethnic & economic backgrounds; exposure working in underserved
communities
• Bilingual in Spanish
