Los Angeles Modern Auctions (LAMA), the leading auction house on the West Coast for modern and contemporary fine art and design is seeing a part-time staff writer (minimum of 15 hours per week) to create written materials for select works and events in upcoming auctions that focus predominantly on post-war and contemporary art and design. Under the direction of the Managing Director, the part-time staff writer will produce essays for the print auction catalogue, create content for blog posting, and create artist’s biographical information. Additionally, the staff writer will be responsible for writing press releases and content for social media (Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram accounts).

Responsibilities

 Write and edit the following content:
 essays for the auction catalogue based on scholarly/curatorial materials
 blog posts on select works for online promotion
 press releases
 biographical copy on assigned artists for LAMA’s website
 content for Social Media (Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram)
 copy for various websites

Qualifications

 BA Degree in Art History, Communications, or related field
 Minimum of 2 years of copywriting for a museum, auction house, gallery, or related experience within the arts
 In-depth knowledge of modern and contemporary art required
 Excellent writing abilities and strong copyediting skills
 Must be meticulous with strong attention to detail, exceptional spelling ability and comprehensive understanding of grammar
 Ability to interact effectively with and gain the confidence of senior management
 Ability to meet required deadlines
 Strong computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook
 Social media experience a strong advantage
The position’s compensation is at the rate of $15.00 per hour.
