Position Seeking: City Council

Question 1: Please share a meaningful experience you had with art (visual, dance, drama, music, media arts) while growing up and its impact on you.

Since childhood, the arts has been a part of my life. My parents enrolled me as a Sunshine Generation Kid where I learned how to sing and dance. From then on, I continued singing in middle school having the honor to sing with the National Childrens Chorus at Carnegie Hall. Into High School, I started into Show Choir having the opportunity to compete locally and nationally. I would later earn an Associate of Arts in Fine and Performing Arts from Citrus College in Glendora, CA. The arts has given me depth and insight adding more meaning to my life than I can ever express.

Question 2: What do you believe the role of City Council should be in developing and supporting the region’s arts and cultural infrastructure?

I believe the role of the City Council should be supportive of the region’s arts and culture infrastructure. This support may come in the form of access to facilities, programs through the parks and recreation department, or cooperation during regional arts and cultural expereinces.

Question 3: What’s your vision for the city? What role, if any, does art and culture play in advancing that vision?

My vision for our community is to protect its neighborhoods, its character, and its future. Art and culture do play a role in advancing that vision as our heritage here in San Dimas is something many citizens are proud of. With many art and cultural festivals held here in our community, it reminds our community of the beauty of our town, diversity in our community, as well as the talent of many artist.

Questions 4: A recent report by the Otis College of Design found that 1 in every 6 jobs in LA County supports the creative sector and economy in Los Angeles County. If elected, how will you aim to ensure the continued vitality and growth of the creative economy and the artistic community that it supports?

If elected, I will aim to ensure the continued vitality and growth of the creative economy and the artistic community it supports through thoughtful consideration of zoning, planning, and municipal ordinances that may impact a businesses ability to operate within our community.
