ABOUT

Valley Performing Arts Center (VPAC) includes two venues, a 500-seat auditorium, and the new 1700-seat state of the art proscenium theater/concert hall. VPAC presents about 50 performances per year of world-class artists of all genres and disciplines. Located in the nation's second largest market, Los Angeles, VPAC operates at the highest level of professional and artistic excellence.

DUTIES

Under general supervision, the Senior Lead House Usher provides front-of-house (FOH) operations and audience service support on an "on-call" basis for events at the Plaza del Sol (PdS) and Valley Performing Arts Center (VPAC). The incumbent acts as sole FOH representative at PdS events, and on occasion, may be assigned to act as primary FOH representative at VPAC events and receptions; leads and supervises usher staff during events; communicates with University Student Union (USU) maintenance, custodial workers, building managers, Associated Students (AS) Ticket Office staff, and campus security; works with staff to prepare front-of-house for audience including posting signage, house and lobby cleanup, clearing of USU walkways, and set-up of tables and chairs; identifies potential safety problems in public areas and seeing to their resolution before they result in incidents; provides immediate, first response to FOH safety incidents and emergencies; provides administrative support to the House Manager; and performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Equivalent to one (1) year of related experience, providing audience or customer services, providing performing arts support functions, or in a theatre related setting; which includes experience as a VPAC Lead House Usher for at least one (1) semester required. Current Red Cross CPR, AED and/or First Aid certification is preferred.

LICENSE: CANDIDATE MUST POSSESS A VALID CALIFORNIA DRIVER'S LICENSE. In addition, if involved with off-campus tabling events candidate, must possess proof of auto insurance, and be willing to complete a form authorizing use of privately owned vehicles on state business, the Department of Motor Vehicles' Employer Pull Notice Program (DMV EPN) form to authorize release of DMV records, and complete CSUN's defensive driving online course

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

Knowledge of theatre etiquette, standards and protocol, performing arts center and university facilities, policies, and organization is a plus. Displays exceptional leadership and supervision skills; able to maintain strong working relationships between guests, students, artists, faculty, peers and upper management. Ability to present excellent customer service skills and the ability to effectively work crowd control; displays flexibility and patience when interacting with others; ability to work independently as well as part of a team. Ability to lift 35 lbs.

Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule

SALARY: The salary range for this classification is: $16.10 - $26.65 per hour.

The anticipated HIRING RANGE: $18.00 - $20.00, dependent upon qualifications and experience.

HOURS: Intermittent, on-call; hours and schedule vary. Temporary-renewable, end date to be determined.

General Information
