Hammer and Spear is hiring a Senior Sales Associate to work between our two Los Angeles locations (DTLA and West Hollywood).  This is a 4-5 day a week position. 

Hammer and Spear launched in 2013 as a showroom and full service multidisciplinary design studio, comprised of a team of interior designers, architects, and product designers. Founded by husband and wife Scott Jarrell and Kristan Cunningham, Hammer and Spear’s notable aesthetic both informs and reflects the greater movement that has inspired the Arts District for decades.  

 

Summary

The Senior Sales Associate is a multi faceted individual with a passion for design, art, and lifestyle goods. Working under the shop manager, the sales associate is responsible for providing excellent customer service, being knowledgeable about the Hammer and Spear family of brands, communicating with vendors, completing sales transactions and following through with logistics and delivery of furniture orders, keeping the website up to date, conceptualizing and executing marketing campaigns (for mailchimp and Instagram), maintaining the physical appearance of the shop and performs opening and closing procedures.  

 

The Senior Sales Associate should be a self starter and a great communicator, with high-end retail experience. We are also looking for someone with a photographic eye who can style lifestyle goods and take ownership of our Instagram campaigns. 


Essential Functions

  • Greets customers and offers courteous, friendly assistance.

  • Operates POS to process customer purchases and follows proper procedures for cash, check and charge transactions.

  • Communicates with the entire sales team regarding customer requests or issues.

  • Communicates directly with vendors and suppliers to fulfill customer requests and confirm orders.

  • Assists in loss prevention by remaining aware and reporting missing merchandise and damages.

  • Utilizes non-peak hours to become familiar with merchandise, pricing, stocking to ensure a neat and effective presentation of the sales floor.

  • Regularly requests competitive quotes for shipping furniture items cross country and internationally.

  • Receives and inspects inventory, updating price lists and website when necessary.

  • Provides excellent customer service and is knowledgeable about all H+S offerings, including furniture, art, lifestyle and Parts of Four. Is able to answer client questions and suggest merchandise. 

  • Maintains the H+S Instagram by developing and executing weekly campaigns featuring the full range of H+S merchandise.

  • May be asked to lift boxes or other merchandise when restocking.

  • Helps pack and ship online/wholesale orders.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications + Desired Experience

  • Must have excellent communication skills and a high level of integrity and discretion.

  • Must be a self starter and willing to help other team members with shared tasks/responsibilities.

  • Must be able to work well in a group and individually as the different locations will require both.

  • Must have excellent organizational skills and be able to maintain an inbox with a high volume of emails, responding to clients and vendors in a timely manner.

  • Must be able to problem solve creatively.

  • Must be able to multitask in an efficient and effective way.

  • Must be able to handle heavy customer traffic while remaining accurate, tactful and courteous.

  • Luxury retail experience preferred.

  • Experience working with design trade (architects, interior designers, etc) preferred. 

  • Basic knowledge of design.

  • Familiarity with Adobe programs, Quickbooks and Google applications preferred.
