The Stage and Rigging Lead is a non-exempt, full-time staff position which assists management within the Musco Center for the Arts.

The Stage and Rigging Lead works closely with the Lighting Department Head and the Audio Video/IT Department Head to plan, coordinate and execute production needs for the Musco Center for the Arts. The Musco Center produces a variety of programming and has a diverse group of users. This is an on-deck working position, the Stage and Rigging Lead participates in all stage operations including maintenance, load-ins, rehearsals, performances and strike. The Stage and Rigging Lead provides hands-on supervision of casual overhire and student stage technicians. Maintains Musco Center stage equipment and together with the Production Manager, advises rental clients and University users on the most effective use of equipment. Produces scale drawings for events and productions using Vectorworks. Coordinates rental equipment when necessary. Oversees and coordinates all matters related to rigging and fly needs. Prepares all rigging paperwork and materials, maintains and cares for all rigging hardware and soft goods. Plans and installs rigging for productions, following generally accepted rigging practices. Serves as head rigger and rail operator. The Stage and Rigging Lead is responsible for maintaining the safety of all on and over stage operations. Advises the Technical Stage Operations team on safety protocol and policy.  Tracks and schedules maintenance and inspections for all stage equipment. With Event Production Manager and other Technical Stage Operations team members, determines event technical and production needs and prioritizes overhire crew schedule accordingly. This position performs other duties as assigned.


 The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required for the Stage and Rigging Lead position. 

Specific Job Requirements: Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Fine Arts degree with a concentration in Technical Theatre or other closely related field. Three to five years of related experience in the field required.  In-depth knowledge of performing arts, scene design, lighting equipment and design, audio/video equipment, special effects, theatre equipment/facility maintenance. Knowledge of Fire Code as applicable to Assembly Occupancies and related Safety procedures in the interest of patron and user safety. Basic knowledge of contracts, budgets, and accounting. Journey-level skills in electrical, carpentry, audio, and rigging. Leadership experience with proven ability to build solid working teams with various skill levels and personality types. Ability to perform heavy lifting, climb stairs and ladders, work long hours, and have a flexible schedule. Ability to trouble-shoot technical and personnel issues which are relative to the execution of events and performances. Cultural and diversity sensitive.

General Job Requirements: Ability to work effectively in a team based environment. Ability to work independently and follow through on assignments with minimal direction/instruction. Ability to set priorities and organize work to meet multiple deadlines. Strong written and verbal communication skills, including ability to work in teams and develop relationships with potential clients. Ability to interface professionally and respectfully with various levels of co-workers, external clients and vendors, as well as donors and patrons. Strong organizational skills, interpersonal skills, and attention to detail.

Desired: Master’s degree/five to seven years of experience preferred. Proficiency with industry standard CAD programs. Working knowledge of proposal writing protocols. Hold an ETCP Certification in Theatre Rigging.  OSHA 10 Certification. Stage/company manager and/or production management experience preferred.
