Visual Arts Instructor

Marlborough School

Los Angeles, CA

DESCRIPTION

Visual Arts Instructor

2018−2019 School Year

Marlborough School, an independent, college preparatory school in Los Angeles for 530 young women in grades 7-12, seeks a dynamic Visual Arts instructor to join the faculty for the 2018-19 school year. The ideal candidate should possess, at minimum, a BFA in Visual Arts with a focus in ceramics/3D art and have at least 3−5 years of teaching experience at the secondary level (grades 7-12).

Marlborough’s Mission defines the School as “an independent, urban day school serving a diverse group of young women.” We believe a diverse faculty is essential to the Mission of the School, for the following reasons:

We instill confidence and cultivate leadership potential within each student and serve as role models in inspiring them to pursue their personal best.

We arm each graduate with the skills and motivation to create meaningful connections with people throughout the nation and across the world.

We serve as role models for our students with teaching responsibilities that extend beyond the classroom and the curriculum.

It is our responsibility to employ a diverse group of educators who exemplify excellence in teaching and leadership, and teach by example as well as by pedagogy.

The Visual Arts Department at Marlborough believes that there is an interrelationship and interdependence among all disciplines in the arts. The programs are designed to enable students to form an appreciation for the creative process, develop the personal commitment needed to complete a piece of work, establish an appropriate level of technique and skill in their chosen disciplines, and to recognize artistic quality. Students are expected to communicate effectively in both verbal and written form about the art genre in which they are participating, develop confidence in their accomplishments, value cooperative interaction, and to cultivate a personal approach evolving from the aesthetics of a broad range of artistic styles and disciplines. The Visual Arts Department offers a full range of courses in drawing, painting, photography, sculpture, ceramics, metals, filmmaking, and digital arts.

We are seeking a full-time visual arts instructor to join our department beginning in August 2018. Although the exact courses have yet to be determined, experience teaching ceramics is required. The ideal candidate should be comfortable teaching a range of visual arts classes.
