Volunteer and Paid Mentor Artists

Imaginese Bresee Middle School Collaboration

Los Angeles, CA

DESCRIPTION

Exploring acting, artistry, and theatre with young minds is one the most beneficial ways an adult artist can reconnect to their ultimate drive and purpose in the arts. Re-living those first creative discoveries and sparks is not only invigorating, but empowering for others. Generosity for artists is a self-sustaining practice.

Join us for the sixth year of the Imaginese/Bresee Foundation Youth Collaboration. Artist mentors assist the Teaching Artist in youth theatre workshop for ages 11–13. Our mentors guide and support our students, share their experiences, perform, help the students improve their craft, and encourage them to come forward with their ideas. The ideal artist-mentor has experience in either acting, filmmaking, photography, music, dance, or visual art.

Our students have a range of eclectic artistic tastes - and we like them to indulge their creative instincts, tailoring the program in real-time to their interests.

Experienced Teaching Artists who are bilingual (Spanish) are welcome to apply for a paid position. Paid positions are $25 hourly and require a LiveScan (covered by the program) and training session. Please send teaching resumes and experience to [email protected]

Artist mentors who are looking to give back or establish themselves in the company as teaching artists are welcome to apply as Volunteer mentors. This is a great way to gain teaching experience, and inspire young artists to honor their craft. There is no minimum session requirement in order to participate. If you can come once, apply. Please email interest and artistic focus to [email protected]

Artist mentor volunteers will be trained by Imaginese Teaching Artists, and after mentoring in our youth programs, become eligible for paid teaching positions.

The commitment for bilingual Teaching Artists would be 4:00 - 6:00p on Wednesdays.

The options for Artistic Mentors to volunteer are:

Mondays 4:00 - 6:00p

Tuesdays 4:00 - 6:00p

Wednesdays 4:00 - 6:00p

Thursdays 4:00 - 6:00p

Our location is centrally located in Koreatown near Wilshire and Vermont. Time is of the essence so please submit soon, our session begins on January 17, 2018.

(There is no minimum number of sessions for Volunteer Mentor Artists.)

WORKSHOP STRUCTURE

Our workshops meet twice a week for 2 hours afterschool (4:00 - 6:00 pm). Workshops are taught by a team of artists comprised of a Lead Teaching Artist with a background and experience in education, who works collaboratively with volunteer artist-mentors.

ABOUT IMAGINESE

Imaginese is a non-profit arts organization and community center; we provide arts education to at-risk youth in Central & South LA, and organize for social justice through the arts. We are arts advocates, dedicated to highlighting creative solutions to our most pressing problems.

WE BELIEVE ... that artists have the power to cultivate empathy and bridge communities, to dispel apathy, re-ignite imagination, and inspire action on issues that affect us all. We believe that a felt sense of community is the basic building block for all social change - and that our greatest challenges: from climate change, to perennial poverty, racism and intolerance - are rooted in culture. As such, we aim to harness the power of the arts to shift our culture toward a pay-it-forward, socially-conscious global community.
