Volunteer with Arts for LA!
Arts for LA is a voice for the arts in Greater Los Angeles that informs, engages, and mobilizes individuals and organizations to advocate for access to the arts across all communities; arts education for every student; robust investment in the arts; and inclusion of diverse and underrepresented voices. Arts for LA invests in leadership development, growing networks of civically engaged advocates; building deep relationships with elected officials; and working in partnership across sectors to make LA a vibrant, prosperous, creative, and healthy society. Arts for LA has created a spectrum of volunteer opportunities in the areas of special events, communications, and civic engagement.
Volunteers provide critical support at Arts for LA’s special events, such as:
- LA Convergence - an all-day conference of arts and culture professionals and cross-sectors activists,
- ArtsDay - a day of civic engagement between the public and elected officials, and
- ACTIVATE - a 9-month arts advocacy leadership program.
Responsibilities may include: welcoming attendees, processing registration, setting up/breaking down, and assisting staff with executing the event. Volunteer shifts are traditionally four-hours on the day of the event, although volunteers are often needed the day before and the day after an event. Over the 9-month course of ACTIVATE, volunteers could consider multiple opportunities to engage with the program and its participants.
Arts for LA has organized its multiple civic engagement activities under ArtsVote, which seeks volunteers to engage in a variety of wide-ranging electoral strategies. All volunteers will be trained with key messages and receive legislative agenda briefings. Responsibilities could include: conducting outreach to candidates and elected officials; attending public forums and asking questions of candidates and our elected officials; staffiing a campaign to establish arts organizations as polling sites for the 2016 elections; or volunteering as poll workers, among other strategies. Tasks can be performed at home or remotely, in the field, or using Arts for LA digital technology.
Once trained with Arts for LA’s messaging, its Policy Framework, and its Strategic Plan, volunteers are able to assist with social media, writing, public speaking, photography, videography, graphic design, and other elements of communications. Responsibilities could be: project-based, event-based, or an ongoing commitment to help fuel Arts for LA’s robust communication platform.
