Arts Innovators

ACTIVATE: Arts Innovators Track

This program supports artists, art & culture professionals, and community advocates in the development of an advocacy project designed to address an urgent issue facing the Innovator’s community. The program will pair participants with an expert mentor and connect them with the resources necessary to realize their advocacy work.

By the end of the program, Arts Innovators will be fully equipped to pitch a compelling, implementable advocacy project to arts & community advocates.

Applicant’s project proposals should align with one of Arts for LA’s policy priorities:

  1. Equitable Funding for Arts Organizations: Increase all funding to arts and cultural organizations, specifically funding for small and mid-sized organizations.
  2. Creative Career Pathways: Expanding access to paid arts and culture-work based learning opportunities for those aged 16-24.
  3. Affordable Spaces for the Arts: Increase affordability of and access to work spaces for artists & arts organizations in Los Angeles.
  4. Equitable Arts Education: Build political & public will for equitable access to high quality arts instruction.

This program is designed for artists, arts professionals and creative workers, or any cross-sector professional interested in creating an arts and culture-based solution to an urgent challenge facing the Innovator’s community and/or addressing an issue they identify within the creative sector. Unlike the Arts Delegates track, this program requires all participants to apply with an identified, clearly articulated strategic goal and clearly defined benchmarks for success. Applicants should have a clear idea about the overall goals, strategy, and benchmarks for their advocacy project, as well as a working understanding of the resources they need to realize it.

  • Attend Monthly Sessions. The three-hour monthly sessions will take place digitally or in-person - subject to public health guidelines & regulations.
  • Monthly Meetings with Mentor. Arts Innovators will be responsible for scheduling one monthly meeting with their assigned mentor.
  • Attend Online Issue Training. Arts Innovators may be asked to participate in one online issue training, dates TBD.
  • Final Presentation / Workshop
