The Symphonic Jazz Orchestra (www.SJOmusic.org) is a non-profit organization that inspires the next generation through its Music in the Schools program, which currently serves 2,800 students each week in schools from Watts to Long Beach. The 68-member professional ensemble performs, records and commissions symphonic jazz.

The SJO is now seeking a Communications & Administrative Coordinator to support the Music in the Schools program, coordinate organizational communications and social media, and assist with the production of concerts and special events. This position combines communications, light graphic design, event coordination, and administrative responsibilities. The ability to multi-task and work as an effective member of a team is essential. The ideal candidate is resourceful, detail-oriented, creative, a good problem solver, and has strong communication and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

· Support the Education Team with the Teaching Artists training sessions
· Research and purchase office and education program supplies & oversee inventory
· Create and distribute email newsletters and manage SJO’s social media accounts and content calendar.
· Create and adapt basic promotional materials, including social media graphics, flyers, concert programs and other digital and print materials, primarily using existing templates.
· Update and monitor SJO website
· Assist in filing and general office organization
· Assist in Event Planning and communications
· Work at concertyous and events which occur on occasional weekends or evenings, including on-site setup, guest and volunteer coordination, hospitality and breakdown.
· Coordinate an annual competition for new music
· Take minutes at quarterly Board meetings
· Respond to questions and requests for information

Qualifications

· Experience in content creation for social media platforms, Instagram and Facebook
· Experience with or willingness to learn website (Wix) and email marketing platforms
· Experience creating visual materials using Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar tools
· Proficiency with Google Workspace
· Dedicated self-starter able to operate independently with limited infrastructure
· Excellent organizational, writing and communication skills
· Experience in arts, education, or music non-profits preferred
· Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience

Part-time position, 18 – 20 hours per week, flexible schedule. Primarily remote work, with occasional in-person work in the Los Angeles area, particularly around concerts and special events. Offices are in Ladera Heights/Westchester. $26.00 – 28.00 per hour compensation, paid as a W2 employee. Paid holidays plus one week vacation at Christmas and one week in summer, plus other benefits.

Salary: $26 – $28, hourly
