Fractional Development Director

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
Invertigo Dance Theatre, a Los Angeles–based nonprofit dance company, is seeking an experienced fundraising consultant to serve as its Fractional Development Director (FDD) on a monthly retainer basis. This is a meaningful opportunity to shape the individual giving program of an active dance organization.
This role will contribute development strategy, donor cultivation practices, and fundraising leadership to a company deeply rooted in movement, equity, and community. The FDD will primarily communicate with the Managing Director, while maintaining awareness of the roles of staff and board, as well as all Invertigo programming.
The ideal candidate brings an understanding of Los Angeles philanthropy, a proven track record with individual and major gift campaigns, and genuine enthusiasm for the performing arts.

SCOPE OF WORK
– Lead and oversee the organization’s individual giving strategy, including annual fund and major gifts.
– Build and manage a donor pipeline; collaborate with the Managing Director and board in cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship for individual giving.
– Collaborate with Managing Director to create a written annual development plan with clear goals, timelines, and metrics.
– Identify current and prospective donors with potential interest and capacity to serve as board members.
– Remain current on institutional fundraising efforts, making recommendations to maintain alignment with individual giving and the overall development plan.
– Prepare quarterly or post-campaign fundraising reports for the Board of Directors.
– Advise board to support their collective and individual fundraising efforts.
– Assist the Managing Director in incorporating revenue goals into budgeting, as well as tracking receipt of pledges or multi-year awards.
– Advise staff on best practices for CRM gift entry and donor acknowledgement.
– Attend 4–6 company events per year in the Los Angeles area, serving as a development presence and relationship-builder. Events may include performances, classes, and fundraising events, for Invertigo or other relevant institutions.
– Report directly to the Managing Director and serve as a key strategic partner on all things development.
REQUIREMENTS
– Strong familiarity with the philanthropic landscape in Los Angeles County, including knowledge of individual donors interested in the arts, giving trends, and the local nonprofit ecosystem.
– 3+ years of experience creating and overseeing individual giving strategy and campaigns, with demonstrated success in donor cultivation and major gift solicitation.
– Availability and willingness to attend 4-6 events per year in the Los Angeles area.
– Experience working independently in a consulting or fractional capacity, with strong self-direction and communication skills.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
– Experience designing donor-focused events, such as in-home fundraising gatherings, pre- or post-concert VIP receptions, or salon-style cultivation events.
– Familiarity with or direct experience in the Los Angeles dance ecosystem
– Familiarity with dance or movement-based programs for the Parkinson’s Disease and aging communities
COMPENSATION & START DATE
Monthly retainer of $3,000-4,000 per month
Consultant / independent contractor basis
Start date in April 2026, moderately flexible depending on availability
