ABOUT THE POSITION

The Skirball Cultural Center is seeking a Grant Writer to join its dynamic Advancement department. Reporting directly to the Vice President of Advancement, this full-time position is essential for the Skirball’s fundraising initiatives. As a Grant Writer, you will be responsible for crafting compelling proposals and communications that align with Skirball’s priorities, engaging with philanthropists, foundations, corporations, and government entities to secure funding to support the Center’s mission.

In this key role, the Grant Writer will shape narratives that resonate with potential donors. Our Grant Writer will use strong writing skills in a meaningful way, contributing to the success and impact of a the largest Jewish cultural institution in the United States. ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Writing/Communication

• Develops grant proposals, reports, budgets, and necessary supporting materials
• Gathers and analyzes data and qualitative information to support grant and report preparation
• Writes major donor acknowledgments and correspondence
• Develops and designs exhibition/program prospectuses and other Advancement communications
• Collaborates with colleagues in other departments to clarify priorities, goals, and objectives for impactful proposals
• Collaborates with the Membership Manager and assists with writing membership promotions and materials
• Ensures strict adherence to grant compliance requirements, including reporting obligations and any specific conditions outlined by funders
• Collaborates with the Marketing and Communications team to create engaging content highlighting the Skirball’s achievements

Advancement

• Assists the Vice President Advancement in maintaining excellent communications, relationships, and networks with donors and funder contacts
• Maintains the grants calendar to monitor application processes, deadlines, reports, and grant compliance
• Researches available grants from diverse sources of funding
• Initiates and develops relationships with potential new funding sources and attends meetings when appropriate
• Maintains records in donor database, completing prospect plans and recording proposals and acknowledgments
• Attends grant writing, fundraising, and donor database webinars/workshops
• Participates in major donor cultivation events and Skirball-wide programs
• Works evenings and weekends on occasion and as requested to represent the Skirball at community events

QUALIFICATIONS

• Three (3) years of successful nonprofit grant writing experience
• Undergraduate degree in English, Communications, Fundraising, or similar field and/or equivalent experience
• Demonstrated commitment to the Skirball’s mission to welcome the stranger and help build a more just society
• Excellent computer skills and demonstrated ability to utilize Office 365 applications and Altru, or equivalent donor database software
• Skilled in graphic design and demonstrated ability using different design software; Adobe InDesign proficiency a plus
• Strong organizational skills to maintain the grants calendar, monitor application processes, deadlines, and grant compliance
• Experience collaborating with colleagues across different departments to align priorities and goals
• Ability to analyze data and gather information to support grant and report preparation

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

The salary range is $65k – $70k. Benefits for full time employees include health insurance, paid vacation, holidays, parental leave, 403B, 20% discount at museum store, and more.
