The Big New is looking for a full-time Project Manager and Estimator to join our growing team in Los Angeles. This position is available for an experienced professional with an art, industrial, architecture, or other related design background.

The Big New is a leading art fabrication company specializing in the design, fabrication, and installation of ambitious contemporary art and architectural projects. Working collaboratively with artists, designers, architects, developers, and institutions, we deliver cast and fabricated metal sculpture, integrated architectural artwork, and multidisciplinary fabrication projects across the United States. Our team engages in every phase of project delivery — from concept development and estimating through fabrication, logistics, and installation. We are seeking a highly organized, technically minded, and collaborative Project Manager / Estimator to join our growing Los Angeles team.
Position Summary:
The Project Manager / Estimator is responsible for translating artistic concepts, client goals, and fabrication requirements into executable scopes, estimates, schedules, and delivery strategies.
This role supports projects from early budgeting and proposal development through fabrication and installation, serving as a key liaison between clients, vendors, technical design, and workshop teams. The ideal candidate is comfortable balancing creative ambition with practical execution and thrives in a fast-paced, highly collaborative fabrication environment.
This position offers the opportunity to contribute to the delivery of significant public art and architectural projects on both a local and national scale.
Key Responsibilities:
– Estimating & Proposal Delivery
o Develop project estimates, budgets, and proposals following company protocols
o Coordinate RFQs and pricing requests with vendors, fabricators, and consultants
o Assist in developing project scopes, assumptions, exclusions, and schedules
o Support risk identification and project de-risking during pre-production
o Compare vendor proposals and assist with procurement strategy
– Project Management & Delivery
o Manage awarded projects from kickoff through fabrication and installation
o Coordinate schedules, milestones, and project deliverables
o Maintain communication with clients, artists, consultants, and project stakeholders
o Track project budgets, risks, change orders, and forecasting
o Coordinate with production and technical teams to ensure successful execution
o Organize project documentation, meeting notes, and reporting
– Production & Technical Coordination
o Liaise with workshop teams to ensure fabrication requirements are communicated clearly
o Coordinate with Technical Designers and fabricators to support efficient production methodologies
o Support engineering coordination and consultant integration as required
o Assist with installation planning, logistics coordination, and site readiness Qualifications:
– Have a passion for the arts, a strong work ethic, and willingness to learn.
– Relevant experience in an art or design business with a focus on aspects of project design, creation, and delivery ideally within the Los Angeles Metropolitan Area.
– Demonstrable track record of strong analytical, problem-solving, and multi-tasking abilities.
– Some knowledge of various materials/design/fabrication/installation processes and techniques.
– Some knowledge of standard contract terms and conditions.
– Have a valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle for travel to workshop.
Skills:
– Microsoft Office – Word, Excel, and Project programs. Airtable and ChatGPT.
– Modeling and drafting experience in Rhinoceros 3D is encouraged.
– Some knowledge of mechanical design is encouraged.
– Ability to work effectively under pressure and on deadline with minimal supervision.
– Desire and ability to work collaboratively with teams in-person.
